Stainless steel catches fluorescent glow Eggs crack sharp on seasoned row Regulars grunt, order black and strong I flip the hash, been here too long Rusty can walks the drive-in fringe Water arcs on cracked-up hinge Screen stands white in desert night I trace the lines where pixels died Trucker Joe laughs at burnt toast joke Waitress pours, no sugar, just smoke Grease stains map the counter top Clock ticks slow, don't ever stop Rusty can walks the drive-in fringe Water arcs on cracked-up hinge Screen stands white in desert night I trace the lines where pixels died Speaker posts lean like tired bones Weeds choke the parking zones Hose uncoils from spigot red Feeding dust where projectors led Rusty can walks the drive-in fringe Water arcs on cracked-up hinge Screen stands white in desert night I trace the lines where pixels died Midnight movie, no one sees Just me and weeds and memories Water hisses on hot steel Cooling down the projection reel Organ swells, brass muted low Leslie spins a slow shadow Hollowbody cries a lonesome bend Night shift cooking, nearing end Dawn paints pink on metal frame Watering can puts out the flame Last drop falls on concrete lip I wipe my hands, clock out, slip Rusty can walks the drive-in fringe Water arcs on cracked-up hinge Screen stands white in desert night I trace the lines where pixels died Rusty can walks the drive-in fringe Water arcs on cracked-up hinge Grill goes cold, coffee grows thin Another night cooked from within
