Track Insight / Lyrics

My cab sits idle by the toll Rain writes its letters on the glass The meter sleeps, the night is whole I watch the bridge hold steady mass Oil stains my thumb and forefinger The mainspring sings a quiet song Mist muffles every distant ringer I count the seconds, calm and long The bridge keeps time on rusted gear River runs deep but shows no fear Apprentice hums a steady line Taxi waits for morning shine Gears turn slow in misty air The bridge keeps time, we both are there Fares come and go like passing clouds Clock faces glow in shop windows Driver knows the city's shrouds Time pays the debt that no one knows The bridge keeps time on rusted gear River runs deep but shows no fear Apprentice hums a steady line Taxi waits for morning shine Gears turn slow in misty air The bridge keeps time, we both are there Copper wires hum in stereo Harmonium breathes a low drone Foot tambourine taps soft and slow Two voices rise, not alone Wall of fuzz begins to grow We meet where mist and metal shone Spring unwinds, I turn the key Pendulum swings in greased embrace Mist lifts a little, sets gear free Dawn paints the cables, paints my face Engine coughs to waking life Wipers clear the ghosted pane Another day, another strife Bridge holds the clock, holds back the rain The bridge keeps time on rusted gear River runs deep but shows no fear Apprentice hums a steady line Taxi waits for morning shine Gears turn slow in misty air The bridge keeps time, we both are there Humming low where iron sigh
