Track Insight / Lyrics

Snow piles high on the pine ridge line Water stays black past the dinner time A figure crouches where the shore drops steep Counting heartbeats while the town's asleep [Pre- Steam rises slow from the thermal vent Old hymns humming where the deep stones went He presses an ear to the frozen crust Hears the organ play in the dust Stone sings soft beneath the mountain snow A choir trapped where the sunlight won't go He's the only customer at this late show Drinking the music nobody knows Grill's turned cold but the coffee's hot He stirs the steam in a lonely spot The water don't ripple when the wind blows hard It holds the shape of a buried yard [Pre- Vibrations travel up the soles of his boots Ancient pipes playing forbidden flutes No ticket punched for this midnight seat Just the rhythm of a holy beat Stone sings soft beneath the mountain snow A choir trapped where the sunlight won't go He's the only customer at this late show Drinking the music nobody knows Saxophone coughs from the lodge down low But up here only the deep notes flow He pulls a thermos, takes a long slow pull Watches the surface stay dark and full Dawn cracks the sky with a butcher's knife The music cuts like a saved-up life He stands up stiff, drops a coin in the sand Best damn tip for the underground band Stone sings soft beneath the mountain snow A choir trapped where the sunlight won't go He's the only customer at this late show Drinking the music nobody knows Tracks lead back to the diner door Flipping eggs on the checkered floor Regulars ask where the night shift went He smiles and pours what the temple sent Stone sings soft beneath the mountain snow A choir trapped where the sunlight won't go He's the only customer at this late show Drinking the music nobody knows Stone sings soft beneath the mountain snow Coffee's black and the water's deep Stone sings soft while the world's asleep
