Wound spring turns through January frost
Needle traces shellac grooves lost
Quercus roots wait under stone
Bud scales split when light has grown
Spring unwound in cobalt lane
Brass throat sings the winter rain
Galanthus pushes through the clay
Patient roots hold fast and stay
Centrifugal governor spins slow
Regulates the tempo low
Hedera clings to mortar joints
Waiting for the vernal points
Coal smoke curls past frozen glass
Footsteps fade on icy mass
Muscari dreams in dark loam deep
Snowdrop wakes from frozen sleep
Spring unwound in cobalt lane
Brass throat sings the winter rain
Galanthus pushes through the clay
Patient roots hold fast and stay
Key winds down to final turn
Silence waits for spring's return
Helleborus lifts white head
Life persists in frozen bed
Last groove passes sapphire tip
Sound box closes gentle grip
Betula catkins swell in gray
Light extends the shortened day
Spring unwound in cobalt lane
Brass throat sings the winter rain
Galanthus pushes through the clay
Patient roots hold fast and stay
Spring unwound the season turns
Brass remembers what it learns
Winding key rests in palm
Silence grows the coming calm
