Track Insight / Lyrics

Paint peeled back like sunburned skin Rockers frozen in the grain Lightning writes its name again Storm don't care where you've been Rusted bolts hold memory tight Quarter century of summer weight Granddaddy's whittled initials fade Rain hammers through the screen door light Slow rust claims the rocking chair Thunder shakes the porch boards bare Years don't ask for permission Weather writes its own condition Slow rust claims the rocking chair Night swallows up the repair Meter runs on empty nights Fare box full of soaked receipts Driver knows the mileage rights Storm reads palms on wooden seats Slow rust claims the rocking chair Thunder shakes the porch boards bare Years don't ask for permission Weather writes its own condition Slow rust claims the rocking chair Night swallows up the repair Hammond moans through wet screen wire Brass section hums like distant tires Gibson cries a bent blue note Bass walks deep where water wrote Lightning shows the metal spine Chair don't move but keeps the time Morning finds the slats turned red Oxidation's quiet bloom No fare collected from the dead Porch holds court in rising gloom Taxi sits in garage bay Driver watches through kitchen glass Rocking chair won't run away Storm just adds another pass Slow rust claims the rocking chair Thunder shakes the porch boards bare Years don't ask for permission Weather writes its own condition Slow rust claims the rocking chair Night swallows up the repair Slow rust claims the rocking chair Thunder fades on porch boards bare
