Track Insight / Lyrics
In the motel lot with neon lights aglow
A rusted freight car creaks, old and low
Footsteps echo across the cracked asphalt floor
Her suitcase wheels spin, with secrets in store
Each click, each mark of her journey far away
Leaves me here, in this lonely summer day
Maybe someday, she'll see my light
Drive back, and ignite the night
But until then, just shadows play
As she's passing through, every single day
Ooh, the phantoms in the alleyway
Flicker like a ghostly movie play
Ooh, the neon puddles reflect the night sky
As she's passing by, she don't know why
She's searching for a place to halt her stride
But can't find a reason to linger inside
No other soul out here in this desert heat
Just dust and gravel beneath her hurryin' feet
She left a trail of disappearing dreams
With every mile, the ghosts of what could've been
The rail yard's strange allure, an alien land
Lures her onward, from this desolate stand
Maybe someday, she'll see my light
Drive back, and ignite the night
But until then, just shadows play
As she's passing through, every single day
Ooh, the phantoms in the alleyway
Flicker like a ghostly movie play
Ooh, the neon puddles reflect the night sky
As she's passing by, she don't know why
She's searching for a place to halt her stride
But can't find a reason to linger inside
Train whistles pierce the empty air
A lonely lullaby, beyond compare
Her story weaves, like a spool in the night
Each moment lost, in this endless flight
I'd wait forever, by your freight car door
Watching your silhouette, and the darkness that's you more
Ooh, the phantoms in the alleyway
Flicker like a ghostly movie play
Ooh, the neon puddles reflect the night sky
As she's passing by, she don't know why
She's searching, through the neon rain
A fleeting glimpse, of something, something again
(6-beat drum fill with bright filtered synth lead pulse, slowly fading)
