Track Insight / Lyrics

Wind cuts the dock planks Salt rides the cold gust He stands where the tide turns Coffee steam curls up Old hands grip the rail wood Blue wool cap pulled down tight Logs the tide in a worn book Gulls scream through the night Salt watch on the harbor pier Salt watch wind in his ear He counts the waves like cups of joe Steady as the undertow Thermos clanks on metal deck Black coffee no cream no sugar Checks the lines on the cleat deck Morning fog will hug the wreck Salt watch on the harbor pier Salt watch wind in his ear He counts the waves like cups of joe Steady as the undertow Forty years he chased the horizon Now the horizon chases him Tattooed anchor faded vision Diner eggs on a chipped rim Salt watch on the harbor pier Salt watch wind in his ear He counts the waves like cups of joe Steady as the undertow Locals call him Captain Abe Kids bring shells to his boots He sorts them keeps what the sea gave Returns the rest to the roots Storm rolled in last November Took the pier and a good friend He held the lantern remember Now he waits for the end Sunrise paints the water gold He folds the book drinks the last drop Whistles low a tune so old Walks off as the gulls stop Salt watch on the harbor pier Salt watch wind in his ear He counts the waves like cups of joe Steady as the undertow Salt watch done for today Coffee cold on the tray
