My paint peels in slow copper strips
The yard breathes fog through iron ribs
No kickstand holds my weight to ground
Just gravel teeth where sleep is found
I was built for open roads
Now I drink the rust that loads
Chain remembers every turn
Rust sings soft where oil once burned
Freight cars cough in midnight keys
Their rhythm shakes my frozen spokes
A boy once wiped my dust with sleeves
Now condensation writes its jokes
Camera flash caught me in frame
Before the tires gave up air
He rode hard for a different name
Left me leaning on a rail
I was built for open roads
Now I drink the rust that loads
Chain remembers every turn
Rust sings soft where oil once burned
Bolts loosen in the morning chill
Frame remembers how to climb
Each revolution writes its will
Time is just a different grind
Dawn paints gold on corroded chrome
A sparrow tests the saddle spring
I still turn in revolutions home
Where pavement hums and pedals sing
I was built for open roads
Now I drink the rust that loads
Chain
