Track Insight / Lyrics

You brush the wax in steady circles round The moss climbs up the rusted iron crown A beam of sun splits through the broken pane It catches on the leather bright and plain Ruin shine on the bench today Old light finds a brand new way You rub the grain the darkness flees Ruin shine does what it pleases The salt air hangs on every tool you own The lamp oil scent on cloth and bone No storm out there can touch this quiet craft Just you and hide and a forward shaft Ruin shine on the bench today Old light finds a brand new way You rub the grain the darkness flees Ruin shine does what it pleases The girder groans where ivy pulls it down But here you work on boots for the walking town Each stroke a prayer for soles that walk the pier The light stays close it has no fear The keeper watches from the tower height He knows the value of a steady light No lens to polish no heavy glass to grind Just leather taking what the sun designed The brush wears smooth against your calloused palm A quiet rhythm a steady calming psalm The moss drinks deep the morning dew on floor You ask for nothing give a little more Ruin shine on the bench today Old light finds a brand new way You rub the grain the darkness flees Ruin shine does what it pleases Last boot is done you set it on the shelf The light moves on keeps moving by itself The ruin sleeps beneath the mossy veil Your hands still know the story never fail Ruin shine on the bench today Old light finds a brand new way You rub the grain the darkness flees Ruin shine does what it pleases Ruin shine it sets you free Old light it belongs to thee Buff the toe let the light stay Ruin shine fades the day
