Track Insight / Lyrics

Salt crust clings to window glass Tide marks fade on weathered brass Orange glow cuts through the mist Pumpkin face by storm winds kissed [Pre- Wick trimmed low for winter gales Light holds fast when darkness rails Keeper knows the rhythm well Each flicker has a tale to tell Porch lantern burns at midnight hour Jack-o'-lantern watches rain's cold shower Flame dances on the salt-worn wood Halloween stands where keepers stood Cello hums from driftwood beams Violin sings in minor seams Harpsichord ticks like turning gears Counting down the witching years [Pre- Oil measured in a copper cup Before the light comes up Logbook entries brief and true Storms survived and skies turned blue Porch lantern burns at midnight hour Jack-o'-lantern watches rain's cold shower Flame dances on the salt-worn wood Halloween stands where keepers stood Flute breath slips through cracked door frame Organ drones the pumpkin's name Bowed cello groans like hull stress Mellotron sighs in loneliness Thirty years I trimmed the wick Thirty years the beam held thick Now I tend a smaller fire But the watch never tires Each All Hallows brings the round Same old light on same old ground Porch lantern burns at midnight hour Jack-o'-lantern watches rain's cold shower Flame dances on the salt-worn wood Halloween stands where keepers stood Dawn will break the spectre's spell Smoke curls up from extinguished shell Wax pools deep in carved grin Keeper rests the watch within Porch lantern burns at midnight hour Jack-o'-lantern watches rain's cold shower Flame dances on the salt-worn wood Halloween stands where keepers stood Porch lantern keeps the ancient vow Light persists beyond the now Wick snuffed slow at morning's gray Until next year's All Hallows Day
