I tend the soil and the loam
This greenhouse is my only home
Calathea leaves turn to gold
Stories that the roots have told
Pale wing beating on the pane
Waiting for the summer rain
Cracked glass cutting through the light
Holding on with all my might
The Monstera climbs the wall
Watching every petal fall
I speak in Latin to the seed
Giving every sprout its need
The humidity is a shroud
Heavy as a thunder cloud
Soot on the ledge and the frame
Nothing here remains the same
Pale wing beating on the pane
Waiting for the summer rain
Cracked glass cutting through the light
Holding on with all my might
The nitrogen feeds the deep green
The sharpest edge I have ever seen
I will not leave this broken place
I will not hide my weathered face
I brush the pollen from my hand
Mapping out this humid land
The moth is white as winter snow
Nowhere left for us to go
Pale wing beating on the pane
Waiting for the summer rain
Cracked glass cutting through the light
Holding on with all my might
Hold the light. Hold the light.
Pale wing glass.
