Card catalog smells like rye dough
Dewey Decimal starts to glow
Yeast blooms warm on reference shelf
Quiet archive keeps itself
Cold air bites but the dough don't care
Timer ticks loud in stagnant air
Heat rises through the floor vent grate
Morning comes but we stay late
Night proof in the basement deep
Where the silent volumes sleep
Crust turns gold on the steel cart trays
Library bakes better days
Sourdough starter in the jar
Labels typed on catalog card
Knead the loaf on reading table
Gluten wakes while lights are stable
Cold air bites but the dough don't care
Timer ticks loud in stagnant air
Heat rises through the floor vent grate
Morning comes but we stay late
Night proof in the basement deep
Where the silent volumes sleep
Crust turns gold on the steel cart trays
Library bakes better days
Rye loaf rises past the stacks
Knowledge bakes in oven cracks
Butter melts on manuscript
Crumb falls where the scholars sit
Night proof in the basement deep
Where the silent volumes sleep
Crust turns gold on the steel cart trays
