Track Insight / Lyrics

Midnight cleaner sweeps the yellow line Notebook wakes with spine of cracked design Pages flutter in the draft so cold Stories waiting to be bought and sold Midnight ledger walks the platform alone Searching for a hand to call its own Ink stains deep on worn and weathered skin Dawn breaks sharp where night begins Coffee cup left on a plastic seat Steam rises from the bitter heat Notebook sniffs the residue Reads the morning in the brew Midnight ledger walks the platform alone Searching for a hand to call its own Ink stains deep on worn and weathered skin Dawn breaks sharp where night begins Turnstile clicks with mechanical sigh Notebook checks the arrival time No more trains on printed card Only echoes in the yard Midnight ledger walks the platform alone Searching for a hand to call its own Ink stains deep on worn and weathered skin Dawn breaks sharp where night begins Graffiti tags the tunnel wall Notebook reads them one and all Phone numbers scratched in blue ballpoint Dreams deferred at this joint Fluorescent flicker, bulb goes dark Notebook finds its final mark A name pressed deep in margins thin The last train's passenger within Morning rush will flood the floor But notebook waits beside the door Leather creaks with satisfied sound Best lost item ever found Midnight ledger walks the platform alone Searching for a hand to call its own Ink stains deep on worn and weathered skin Dawn breaks sharp where night begins Midnight ledger finds its way back home Leather rests where fingers roam Steel rails hum, the cycle turns Midnight ledger slowly burns
