Meter clicks as costumes cross the street
Wet leaves stick to rubber on my feet
A porch light flickers orange through the mist
This night collects what daylight missed
Wipers sweep the witches from the glass
Fare jumps double when the spirits pass
Clock strikes twelve, the meter starts to run
Halloween has only just begun
Midnight fare on All Hallows' Eve
Pumpkin watches, make believe
Rain-slicked porch and carved out grin
Night drives deep, the veil wears thin
Skeleton pays exact change in bone
Werewolf howls at signals, waits alone
Vampire counts his minutes in the back
Black cat arches on a Cadillac
Wipers sweep the witches from the glass
Fare jumps double when the spirits pass
Clock strikes twelve, the meter starts to run
Halloween has only just begun
Midnight fare on All Hallows' Eve
Pumpkin watches, make believe
Rain-slicked porch and carved out grin
Night drives deep, the veil wears thin
Fog rolls heavy off the river bend
Old proverbs rise on gusts of wind
Dead men tell no tales, my grandfather said
But tonight they're riding, fighting dread
Midnight fare on All Hallows' Eve
Pumpkin watches, make believe
Rain-slicked porch and carved out grin
Night drives deep, the veil wears thin
Cemetery shortcut saves the time
Headstones glow in rhythm, rhythm, rhyme
Passenger vanishes at iron gate
Leaves a scent of sulfur, cinnamon, fate
Midnight fare on All Hallows' Eve
Pumpkin watches, make believe
Rain-slicked porch and carved out grin
Night drives deep, the veil wears thin
Dawn approaches, pumpkin starts to sag
Wax drips slow on wooden porch and flag
Meter resets, the night shift hits the door
One more Halloween behind the wheel, no more
Midnight fare on All Hallows' Eve
Pumpkin watches, make believe
Rain-slicked porch and carved out grin
Night drives deep, the veil wears thin
Midnight fare on All Hallows' Eve
Pumpkin watches, make believe
Rain stops falling, meter goes to sleep
Jack-o'-lantern guards the promises we keep
