Track Insight / Lyrics

Coffee steam rises past the grill The night shift works the graveyard still A knight walks in boots caked in sand Orders eggs and grips his trembling hand [Pre- The armor clanks on vinyl seat He wipes the sweat from helmet sheen The highway calls the desert sings He dreams of rest and simpler things He rests his broadsword on the shoulder lane The heat waves dance on rusted chain No dragon here no king no crown Just miles of road and sun beat down He fought the wars in iron lands Now holds a fork with trembling hands The broadsword leans on booth three A relic for the world to see [Pre- The waitress pours another cup He drinks it down and stands back up The highway calls the desert sings He dreams of rest and simpler things He rests his broadsword on the shoulder lane The heat waves dance on rusted chain No dragon here no king no crown Just miles of road and sun beat down The regulars don't bat an eye They've seen much stranger pass them by Old Joe just grunts and flips a steak Another knight on highway break Arizona sky bleeds orange red The knight sits up and shakes his head No holy grail no maiden fair Just diesel fumes and desert air He laughs a sound like grinding gear Then vanishes from here He rests his broadsword on the shoulder lane The heat waves dance on rusted chain No dragon here no king no crown Just miles of road and sun beat down The grill cools down the shift ends soon Beneath a paper thin white moon The cook wipes down the counter top And wonders where the knight will stop He rests his broadsword on the shoulder lane The heat waves dance on rusted chain No dragon here no king no crown Just miles of road and sun beat down Just dust and steel on I-40 The desert keeps what men let go
