Track Insight / Lyrics
I snap the frame where the marquee cracked
Your armor catches the sodium glow
The speaker post leans like a broken lance
You guard secrets the night won't know
[Pre-
The projector hums with a ghostly hiss
Rewinding battles you never missed
The concession stand rots in sugar and rust
You sheath the blade in cinematograph dust
You park your horse where the screen used to glow
The broadsword rests on the dash, dull and slow
No dragons left in the projection light
Just a tarnished knight at the drive-in tonight
The double feature burned out years ago
Horror and western on the same cracked reel
You drove your steed through the ticket gate slow
Where gravity lost its iron heel
[Pre-
The projector hums with a ghostly hiss
Rewinding battles you never missed
The concession stand rots in sugar and rust
You sheath the blade in cinematograph dust
You park your horse where the screen used to glow
The broadsword rests on the dash, dull and slow
No dragons left in the projection light
Just a tarnished knight at the drive-in tonight
The photo flashes, you don't even blink
Just adjust the visor, wipe grime from the steel
The screen reflects what you refuse to think
A kingdom gone, but the honor's still real
No squire waits with a fresh white horse
No bard sings ballads of your last stand
Just static hiss and a dead exhaust
And me with my camera, shaking hand
You park your horse where the screen used to glow
The broadsword rests on the dash, dull and slow
No dragons left in the projection light
Just a tarnished knight at the drive-in tonight
Dawn bleaches the lot to a pale white bone
You kick the stand down, engine turns over
The broadsword rides in a case not of chrome
But canvas straps on a rusted rover
You park your horse where the screen used to glow
The broadsword rests on the dash, dull and slow
No dragons left in the projection light
Just a tarnished knight at the drive-in tonight
Just a tarnished knight at the drive-in tonight
Shutter clicks, the negative holds
You drive off past the Exit sign
Knight at the drive-in, leaving it all behind
