Track Insight / Lyrics

Cold wind bites through my old wool coat Grey clouds drift like a rusted boat I walk the line of the ticket gate The autumn air is a heavy weight Spin the iron carousel slow Watch the orange maple leaves go Lock the heavy metal chain tight Keep the ghost of the summer in sight Empty booths smell like stale popcorn Old red paint is all chipped and torn I check the lock on the candy stand Flashlight beam in my shaking hand Spin the iron carousel slow Watch the orange maple leaves go Lock the heavy metal chain tight Keep the ghost of the summer in sight Steel tracks freeze in the midnight dew The painted horses look faded blue I hear the rattle of a loose wire Cold black ash from a distant fire Spin the iron carousel slow Watch the orange maple leaves go Lock the heavy metal chain tight Keep the ghost of the summer in sight My boots click on the concrete floor I double bolt the main office door The big wheel stands like a skeleton Waiting for a race that has already run The grease is black on my calloused palm The frozen air is a heavy calm I hold the key and I hold the line Wait for the morning's copper shine I brew the coffee in a plastic pot The breakroom heater is barely hot I watch the fog hide the parking lot Counting the things that I have forgot Spin the iron carousel slow Watch the orange maple leaves go Lock the heavy metal chain tight Keep the ghost of the summer in sight Keep it humming. Lock it down tight. Iron carousel. Slow.
