Moss grows thick on the cedar beam.
Copper light hits a heavy stream.
One cold chain on the wooden floor.
Waiting by the open door.
Iron anchor, rusted and deep.
Promises that the water will keep.
Sinking slow in the bayou mud.
Steel and salt in the rising flood.
Crickets hum in the humid air.
Salty wind pulls a silver snare.
Old pine boards feel the heavy weight.
Standing guard at the garden gate.
Cicadas scream as the sun goes down.
Far away from the noisy town.
Water laps at the porch's edge.
Resting on a limestone ledge.
Iron anchor, rusted and deep.
Promises that the water will keep.
Sinking slow in the bayou mud.
Steel and salt in the rising flood.
The current pulls with a steady hand.
Far away from the solid land.
Hold the grip till the morning light.
Hold the grip through the velvet night.
Black water hides the river bed.
Heavy dreams in a weary head.
The iron holds though the wood may rot.
Tied inside of a sailor's knot.
Iron anchor, rusted and deep.
Promises that the water will keep.
Sinking slow in the bayou mud.
Steel and salt in the rising flood.
Steel and salt.
Hold the line.
