Track Insight / Lyrics
Summer heat, that old iron's pitted face
Warm sweat, my own work-stained hands
Bass line's pulse, night's steady hum
I shine on shadows lengthening red and gone
Grooves in steel, laps in time
Pacing 'round this fire escape stair
Cigar smoke rings, failure's crime
City's warmth in rusty glow we share
Tall city sirens cry, then wink
Feet heavy on the worn chamfer's link
Punk stars burn in dirty windows wide
Cops patrol, sirens off, the night inside
Grooves in steel, laps in time
Pacing 'round this fire escape stair
Cigar smoke rings, failure's crime
City's warmth in rusty glow we share
My boss died drunk off lousy whiskey,
Found him cold on the floor
Now wife and kid, job and home
Abandoned like a rusting throne
Grooves in steel, laps in time
Pacing 'round this fire escape stair
Cigar smoke rings, failure's crime
City's warmth in rusty glow we share
Some journeymen play their tired tune
Disco lights paint walls in gaudy shift
A lonely few still keep the other shoe
Barefoot dancing to the city's shift
Grooves in steel, laps in time
Pacing 'round this fire escape stair
Cigar smoke rings, failure's crime
City's warmth in rusty glow we share
Flashlight dark,
Fading light,
Ending night.
