Track Insight / Lyrics

Workshop door hangs crooked on its hinge Rusted padlock frozen since the spring Weeds climb high the chain link fence line Green light rises where the grass meets pine Green water glowing in the yard tonight Holds no star and holds no moon light Something stirs beneath that emerald skin Watching bubbles break the surface thin Floor tom pulses in my chest bone Matches rhythm of the thing I see Jazzmaster screams through blown-out speaker cones While the pool emits its monotone Green water glowing in the yard tonight Holds no star and holds no moon light Something stirs beneath that emerald skin Watching bubbles break the surface thin Altar boy habits die hard in me I bless the dark with cracked litany Holy water this is not but close Sacrament of algae and of moss The workshop smells of oil and old sweat My knees press damp into the nettle bed The water knows my silhouette It drinks the gaze that I have always fed Green water glowing in the yard tonight Holds no star and holds no moon light Something stirs beneath that emerald skin Watching bubbles break the surface thin Dawn creeps up the prairie horizon line But the pool keeps burning phosphorescent time I should go home and wash my hands clean But the water holds what I have never seen Green water glowing in the yard tonight Holds no star and holds no moon light Something stirs beneath that emerald skin Watching bubbles break the surface thin Now I bring a lawn chair every night Sit vigil by that unnatural light The neighbors sleep the workshop keeps its peace I feed the dark my quiet witness piece Green water glowing in the yard tonight Holds no star and holds no moon light Something stirs beneath that emerald skin
