I climb the iron ladder high
Against a bruised and purple sky
The harness pulls against my skin
Where all the midnight winds begin
I light the glass with golden wire
A ceiling made of frozen fire
I paint the cracks in yellow light
To keep the winter out of sight
The panes are splintered like a bone
A garden sleeping all alone
I hang the bulbs in steady rows
Where the heavy jasmine grows
My camera clicks a silver frame
The humid air forgets my name
I see the ferns in velvet green
The softest sight I've ever seen
I light the glass with golden wire
A ceiling made of frozen fire
I paint the cracks in yellow light
To keep the winter out of sight
One slip and all the bulbs will break
A million shards for us to take
But I hold tight to every beam
Inside this bright and humming dream
I leave the ladder at the door
And walk across the muddy floor
The snapshots blur in amber haze
Lost inside these greenhouse days
I light the glass with golden wire
A ceiling made of frozen fire
I paint the cracks in yellow light
To keep the winter out of sight
Just a snap in gold
Hold the light, hold it gold
(Hold it gold)
