Track Insight / Lyrics

Rain slick pavement, footsteps hit the ground Anomalous pool swallows every sound Neon bleed paints the alley walls in steam Shimmering surface, fractured like a dream I tally strides from behind the grill light Cook's pause, counterman owns the watch tonight Footfall counter, chalk marks on the slate Each step measured, sealed by alley fate Moog bass throbs where the Juno pads wait Solitary witness, logging every gait Diner exhaust vent coughs a greasy smell Pool surface ripples, breaks the reflection spell Rain hammers dumpsters, rhythmic metal flash Stranger pauses, taps a cigarette ash I jot the count in a stained spiral book Short order cook, but tonight I'm off the hook Footfall counter, chalk marks on the slate Each step measured, sealed by alley fate Moog bass throbs where the Juno pads wait Solitary witness, logging every gait Alley breath freezes, condensation ice Pool drinks the glow, pays no electric price Footsteps slow, then hurry through the town Counter clicks, silent witness looking down Coffee cold, but the grill still holds the heat Another tally marked, another night complete Footfall counter, chalk marks on the slate Each step measured, sealed by alley fate Moog bass throbs where the Juno pads wait Solitary witness, logging every gait Pool depth unknown, secrets buried deep Footsteps fade, the alley falls to sleep Neon flickers, casts a dying glow Final stranger passes, moving slow Chalk dust on fingers, shift ends in the dark Counterman clocks out, leaves the final mark Footfall counter, chalk marks on the slate Each step measured, sealed by alley fate Moog bass throbs where the Juno pads wait Solitary witness, logging every gait
