Track Insight / Lyrics

Summer dusk on Hudson Street Typewriter holds its ground Taxi waits in humid heat Keys don't make a sound Fire escape holds the machine Summer writes what we have seen Keys click like meters in the night Stories rise on humid light Passenger left page three blank Driver knows the copper tank Ribbon red as taillight glow Stories only drivers know Fire escape holds the machine Summer writes what we have seen Keys click like meters in the night Stories rise on humid light Cat sleeps on the carriage return Streetlamp flickers taking turn Paper feeds the coming dark Every keystroke leaves a mark Fire escape holds the machine Summer writes what we have seen Keys click like meters in the night Stories rise on humid light I've driven thirty thousand nights Seen the city's secret heights This machine remembers more Than any fare or open door It types the truth we can't explain Summer dusk and falling rain Morning comes with engine cough Typewriter types the last page off Paper pulled from iron teeth Driver breathes the city beneath Fire escape holds the machine Summer writes what we have seen Keys click like meters in the night Stories rise on humid light Fire escape holds the machine Summer writes what we have seen Engine hums in summer dusk
