I caught the midnight bus to town
I watched the heavy rain come down
I kept my camera in my hand
To map this lonely stretch of land
A buzzing pink glow in the weeds
A broken light planting its seeds
It flickers low in the backyard grass
Watching the heavy seasons pass
Behind the shop where hammers ring
I saw a dying current swing
The glass is cracked and turning grey
While all the colors fade away
I leaned against the cedar fence
The humid air felt thick and dense
A humming wire a jagged line
A relic of a different time
A buzzing pink glow in the weeds
A broken light planting its seeds
It flickers low in the backyard grass
Watching the heavy seasons pass
I clicked the shutter fast and tight
To steal a piece of humming light
The lens is blurred the focus gone
Until the breaking of the dawn
I packed my bags and walked away
Into the silver wash of day
The sign still hums a lonely tune
Beneath a pale and paper moon
A buzzing pink glow in the weeds
A broken light planting its seeds
It flickers low in the backyard grass
Watching the heavy seasons pass
Electric rust.
Just electric rust.
