Track Insight / Lyrics
Meter reads zero at the curb
Dust settles on my tired nerve
Santa Fe glows twenty miles back
Rearview mirror holds the track
Desert beacon burns alone
Far from water, far from home
Keeper rests on splintered wood
Where the sand meets understood
Tower stands in prairie grass
No ocean here, just broken glass
Lantern sweeps the juniper trees
Guiding none on roads like these
Desert beacon burns alone
Far from water, far from home
Keeper rests on splintered wood
Where the sand meets understood
Passenger left a silver coin
Said the light would be his own
I pocketed the heavy piece
Drove on toward the city's lease
Desert beacon burns alone
Far from water, far from home
Keeper rests on splintered wood
Where the sand meets understood
Meter clicks, the lantern swings
Two solitudes with silent wings
No fare to call, no ship to save
Just the night we're given, brave
Morning paints the mesa gold
Stories of the night retold
Taxi rolls on highway nine
Beacon flashes, keeping time
Desert beacon burns alone
Far from water, far from home
Keeper rests on splintered wood
Where the sand meets understood
Engine cools, the light stays on
Two souls greet the coming dawn
