Track Insight / Lyrics

Your canvas satchel weighs a stone The brass hinge groans from county roads A needle spins in cracked glass face North lost somewhere near the gate [Pre- Lightning writes in violet ink Thunder shakes the window pane You trace the grain with calloused thumb Wait for calm to break the storm Compass needle shakes but holds Pointing toward a porch light's gold Rain cannot wash the ink away You'll deliver come what may Envelopes sealed with ruby wax Addresses smudged by midnight rain The recipient forgot your name But packages still find their frame [Pre- Lightning writes in violet ink Thunder shakes the window pane You trace the grain with calloused thumb Wait for calm to break the storm Compass needle shakes but holds Pointing toward a porch light's gold Rain cannot wash the ink away You'll deliver come what may Altar boy habits die like embers Latin verses rise unbidden Bless this parcel, bless this pause Bless the wood beneath your soles Compass needle shakes but holds Pointing toward a porch light's gold Rain cannot wash the ink away You'll deliver come what may A dog barks from a covered kennel Porch swing creaks on rusted chain The storm reads addresses aloud You memorize each syllable Compass needle shakes but holds Pointing toward a porch light's gold Rain cannot wash the ink away You'll deliver come what may Dawn bleeds gray through heavy clouds The needle settles, true and slow You shoulder the wet canvas weight Walk the path the storm made plain Compass needle shakes but holds Pointing toward a porch light's gold Rain cannot wash the ink away You'll deliver come what may Compass needle shakes but holds Pointing toward a porch light's gold Boots leave prints in drying mud North found you where you stood
