Steam is rising from the white rim
Basement lights are getting dim
I flip the grill and wipe the slate
The midnight rush is running late
Spoons clink on the heavy glass
Counting every hour pass
The bass line starts to shake the floor
I can't take it anymore
Ceramic glow in a velvet room
Breaking through the midnight gloom
Hold it tight until the morning light
Keeping us awake all night
You sit there with your eyes shut tight
Sipping black in the amber light
I bring the pot and pour it slow
Watching how the embers glow
Spoons clink on the heavy glass
Counting every hour pass
The bass line starts to shake the floor
I can't take it anymore
Ceramic glow in a velvet room
Breaking through the midnight gloom
Hold it tight until the morning light
Keeping us awake all night
Chicago wind is howling loud
The club is just a smoky cloud
I smell the grease and roasted bean
The strangest sight I've ever seen
Tapping feet on the wooden board
Striking a sudden silver chord
Forget the rain and the city street
Feel the rhythm in the heat
Ceramic glow in a velvet room
Breaking through the midnight gloom
Hold it tight until the morning light
Keeping us awake all night
The sax is screaming loud and clear
The end of the shift is finally near
I'll leave the mug upon the stand
The finest treasure in the land
Ceramic glow in a velvet room
Breaking through the midnight gloom
Hold it tight until the morning light
Keeping us awake all night
Keep it glowing
Just keep it glowing
One more cup!
