Track Insight / Lyrics

Chicago wind bites alley brick She frames the cat in frozen breath Orange black white through cigarette smoke Shutter snaps the midnight set Wurlitzer hums through floorboard cracks Hofner bass walks slow and deep She traces whiskers on her lens While saxophones disturb the sleep Calico blue in basement light Prowls the stage where shadows meet Calico blue in basement light Purrs a rhythm soft and sweet Steam vent breathes on matted fur She crouches low by amplifier Keyboardist wipes sweat from brow She captures flame without the fire Calico blue in basement light Prowls the stage where shadows meet Calico blue in basement light Purrs a rhythm soft and sweet Bus ticket folded in her coat Three hundred miles from Ohio snow Cat pauses on a pedal board Meets her gaze then lets it go Drummer drops a brush on ride Cat walks the edge of monitor She adjusts her aperture wide Frames the moment gone before Set ends slow with scattered applause Bouncer unlocks the heavy door Calico slips through cigarette haze Vanishes on Chicago floor Calico blue in basement light Prowls the stage where shadows meet Calico blue in basement light Purrs a rhythm soft and sweet Calico blue in basement light Stays when everyone must leave Shutter clicks one final frame Calico blue remembers her name
