Track Insight / Lyrics
Rubber soles on subway tiles,
Suits and briefcases speeding by,
No one stops to question why
A lone figure watches night's exodus
Red lights flashing, echoes fade,
Whispers of the city's pace,
I'm mesmerized by the sprawl
Where people's stories pass me by
But I've got my compass in my hand
Pointing to the other side
Of tracks where trains no longer stand
Keeping secrets till the morning light
Cigarette smoke, perfume, and sweat,
Faces etched in fleeting shrouds,
In the darkness, love's sweet regret
And promises that fizzle out loud
Subway murmur, passing fame,
Lives compressed in crowded space,
I'm rooted to this lonely claim
Where shadows play their mournful dance
But I've got my compass in my hand
Pointing to the other side
Of tracks where trains no longer stand
Keeping secrets till the morning light
Perhaps tomorrow, I'll unhold
This coin that's guided me so far,
And face whatever stories unfold
Wherever the city's path will scar
But I've got my compass in my palm
Eager for the dawn's first beam
When the city wakes, and I'll take my stand
And wherever I go, it'll lead me home
In the hollow of the morning's gleam
My silver compass chimes its way
Back to silence, till the dream
Returns to watch another night's parade.
