Track Insight / Lyrics

Brass case catches morning light Dust settles on the wooden rail Hands frozen at a quarter past Time holds its breath in desert air That brass watch waits on Santa Fe No fare to catch no road to play The sun climbs high the shadows stray But hands don't move they keep the day Motel paint peels like old receipts Neon buzzard flickers dead at noon Driver's logbook rests on splintered seats Miles recorded in fading ink That brass watch waits on Santa Fe No fare to catch no road to play The sun climbs high the shadows stray But hands don't move they keep the day Turquoise sky cracks open wide Heat rises from the asphalt skin Watch face reflects the blinding white Silent witness to where he's been Years of fares and midnight talks Meter running on borrowed time Now the engine cools the keys rest cold Only wind chimes mark the prime Guest checkout at eleven sharp Room key dropped in a rusted slot Watch ticks once a tiny heartbeat In the silence of the lot That brass watch waits on Santa Fe No fare to catch no road to play The sun climbs high the shadows stray But hands don't move they keep the day Evening paints the mountains red Cooler air settles on the porch Brass warms against the weathered wood Keeps its secret keeps its torch That brass watch waits on Santa Fe No fare to catch no road to play The sun climbs high the shadows stray But hands don't move they keep the day That brass watch waits on Santa Fe Hands frozen at a quarter past Time holds its breath built to last
