Track Insight / Lyrics

City steam rises from the grate I dream of canyons wide and great My alto hums a half-remembered hymn The brass key glints on a sandstone rim [Pre- No lock to turn no latch to lift Just sunlight drinking the canyon rift Brass key shining in the desert sun No door to turn but the day's begun Brass key warming on the mesa stone I hold the heat but I'm still alone Walking bass line in a smoky room Your hand brushes mine chasing gloom A wooden beat a pizzicato string The key stays silent it doesn't sing [Pre- No lock to turn no latch to lift Just sunlight drinking the canyon rift Brass key shining in the desert sun No door to turn but the day's begun Brass key warming on the mesa stone I hold the heat but I'm still alone Modular blips like fireflies at dusk We speak in phrases brief and hushed The mesa shadows stretch long and deep The key is mine but not to keep I sang in choirs where voices swelled Now solo lines are softly spelled The key the mesa the canyon floor Are hymns I hum behind a closed door Brass key shining in the desert sun No door to turn but the day's begun Brass key warming on the mesa stone I hold the heat but I'm still alone Dawn breaks cold on the avenue The mesa fades from memory's view But brass stays warm against my chest A sunlit canyon put to rest Brass key shining in the desert sun No door to turn but the day's begun Brass key warming on the mesa stone I hold the heat but I'm not alone Brass key brass key no door just light Brass key no door just light Just light
