Track Insight / Lyrics

Greyhound tires hiss on wet November pavement Backpack heavy with film and stolen bread Iron arches rise like bones from cracked cement Moon bleeds orange through clouds of holding breath Leaves skitter dry across the frozen stone Shapes like witches cats and grinning skulls Shutter catches amber shadows thrown Night breathes deep and beautiful and full Blood orange moon above the iron gate Dry leaves spiral round the rusted bars My lens captures something strange and great Halloween breathes beneath the climbing stars Fingers numb on metal frozen latch Gate swings inward with a groan so low Viewfinder shows a world no map can catch Where pumpkin grins and skeleton dreams grow Blood orange moon above the iron gate Dry leaves spiral round the rusted bars My lens captures something strange and great Halloween breathes beneath the climbing stars Two strangers lean on rusted bars tonight No names exchanged just silence and the cold Shutter clicks bind us in this hallowed light The oldest magic that the earth still holds Film advances thumb on winding lever Frames stack up like memories in a deck Each exposure catches something true forever Halloween etched on cellulose and speck Dawn will crack the spell with pale grey fingers Bus ticket waits in pocket for the ride But negatives hold all the night that lingers Blood orange gate where magic cannot hide Blood orange moon above the iron gate Dry leaves spiral round the rusted bars My lens captures something strange and great Halloween breathes beneath the climbing stars Shutter closes on the iron gate Blood orange moon begins to fade
