Bus ticket stubs in coat pocket
Black cat arches on chimney crown
October sky turns bruised violet
Film catches the cat prowl down
Black cat prowls the wet rooftop slate
Halloween breathes at the garden gate
No porch light burns on Maple Street
Just paws on shingles soft and sweet
Silver halide holds the gaze
Yellow eyes cut through drizzle veil
Shutter speed sets the night ablaze
One frame prints the Halloween tale
Black cat prowls the wet rooftop slate
Halloween breathes at the garden gate
No porch light burns on Maple Street
Just paws on shingles soft and sweet
Leica heavy in cold fingers
Cat pauses on the ridge tile
Cloud cover pulls its gray linger
Flash bulb dies after a while
Black cat prowls the wet rooftop slate
Halloween breathes at the garden gate
No porch light burns on Maple Street
Just paws on shingles soft and sweet
Negative strips dry on clothesline wire
Black cat silhouettes in developer tray
October wind sings through power line choir
All Hallows Eve fades into gray
Last bus leaves the depot parking
Cat vanishes in alley mouth
Film canister clicks shut darkening
Halloween walks the long road south
Black cat prowls the wet rooftop slate
Halloween breathes at the garden gate
No porch light burns on Maple Street
Just paws on shingles soft and sweet
Black cat prowls the wet rooftop slate
Halloween stays Halloween waits
Shutter clicks on wet slate
Halloween breathes Halloween waits
