Track Insight / Lyrics

At six I locked the lamp Then fog came walking in It swallowed every seat And every brass machine The bumper cars sat still No thunder on the hills The coaster's bones show white Beyond the turning gate A popcorn cart leaks red Across the waiting shed The ticket windows stare At weather dressed in gray The park is closed now And fog is all around No carousel can turn No trumpet wakes the town We ride the unseen rail And laugh above the cloud I know the sea's old mood It hides the sharpest sound But laughter breaks the hush And wakes the empty dust We borrow every spark From one forgotten lamp The park is closed now And fog is all around No carousel can turn No trumpet wakes the town We ride the unseen rail And laugh above the cloud I kept the coast alight Through every warning bell But tonight I leave it dark To hear the carousel The sea can hold the lamp The sky can hold the spark By noon the fog is thin A turn comes rolling in The child cuts through the gate And drags a kite by string The band starts up again As if the storm had planned The park is waking now And sunlight bends the rails The carousel spins round And laughter shakes the ground We ride where echoes fall Together, one and all I turn my back from sea And leave the lamp asleep The fog is lifting white Across the morning light The gate swings wide once more I follow down the shore
