Track Insight / Lyrics
A careless diner dropped me there
One golden fry beside cold air
The western sage stood black in glare
My paper sleeve began to tear
Their shadows gathered, sharp and rare
Two hungry gulls appeared to share
Both gulls circle through the dust
Jaws like rusty nails, they thrust
Come fight, Larus, come take the crust
Make this last small morsel burst
Plant my ending in the grass
Let Sonchus witness all that passed
The first gull wore a hostile stare
The second circled through the flare
Their shadows stretched across my crust
Then one hungry call gained trust
They measured me with silver eyes
And argued which one took the prize
They hit like gravel through the sage
Tore paper edges into shards
Both beaks came down upon my page
My golden center lost its guard
The smaller gull swung far too wide
A loose white feather left the tide
Both gulls circle through the dust
Jaws like rusty nails, they thrust
Come fight, Larus, come take the crust
Make this last small morsel burst
Plant my ending in the grass
Let Sonchus witness all that passed
The sun counted each departing wing
While one torn talon lost its snack
Two empty beaks departed, quick
No one touched my paper sleeve or stick
Below, Sonchus dug and waited
Letting roots remember what I shed
I am a seed the pavement kept
Not planted, only briefly slept
Laridae came, the soil stayed bare
Root systems vanished in their glare
Still, in the grease-mark, dark and deep
Some patient futures wait and sleep
The vending screen cast cold blue light
The last bus rumbled through the night
A yellow taxi stopped and passed
Two feathers trembled on the glass
The pavement held my warming core
While Larus screeched along the shore
Both gulls circle through the dust
Jaws like rusty nails, they thrust
Come fight, Larus, make me burst
Take my ending, take it first
Plant my name across the grass
Let Sonchus carry all that's passed
Laridae!
The parking lot forgets my name
Wind moves salt across the same
One feather turning, pale as chalk
Falls beside the weakening oak
In a crack, Sonchus bends and waits
Patience feeds what time creates
